Reliving the First South African Pickleball National Championships

In June 2025, history was made at Picklers Park in Roodepoort as South Africa hosted its first-ever National Pickleball Championships. From June 20–22, the courts buzzed with energy as over 300 players, fans, and families came together to celebrate the sport’s growing community and competitive spirit.

Championship Highlights

  • Over 15 medal events including Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Masters
  • Youth exhibition matches showcasing the next generation of talent
  • A thrilling men’s singles final that drew a standing crowd

Players travelled from Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and beyond. Each match reflected sportsmanship, skill, and the sheer joy of pickleball.

Community, Music & Family Fun

The Nationals weren’t just about medals. Off-court, kids played on mini courts, families picnicked, and live music played in the background. Food vendors served up everything from boerewors rolls to fresh smoothies, creating a real festival vibe.

Many first-timers came just to watch—and left wanting to play.
